The Ps and Qs of Proofreading

THE PS AND QS OF PROOFREADING Editors don’t get enough credit †and many individuals don’t invest enough energy editing their own work. Editing is about something beyond making a point to cross all the t’s and spot all the i’s. I’ve set up a rundown of supportive editing tips to ensure that your archives come out as near flawless as conceivable †without fail. Keep your spell checking programming, however don’t get excessively agreeable. Spell check is a lovely thing, and a great deal of times it can spare people’s you-know-whats, particularly on the off chance that they don’t have a ton of time to confirmation their work. Be that as it may, spell checking isn’t enchantment, it’s not generally right, and it won’t get on words that are abused. How often have you composed â€Å"Through you may think†¦Ã¢â‚¬ or â€Å"You plans are attached†¦Ã¢â‚¬ , or something comparable, just to have your spell check bomb you? Print it out. You can’t read appropriately on a screen. Your psyche will make little jumps in rationale, naturally filling in missed or abused words. Working from a printed copy makes a proofreader’s work simpler. Don't hesitate to get out a pen and simply get down to business in the event that you feel like it. Recite it for all to hear. That’s right, you may look somewhat insane in the event that you happen to do this in an open spot. Reciting it for all to hear (or if nothing else murmuring to yourself) will drive you to slow your pace and get into the musicality of the language †and that, thus, will enlighten any mix-ups. On the off chance that you bumble as you read to yourself, that’s a decent sign that you should chip away at the punctuation of that line. Get a new pair of eyes. There’s no space to be bashful †having a companion or partner look it over and give you input is a significant wellspring of data. Companions can ordinarily get on irregularities that you may ignore. Twofold check things you don’t believe should be twofold checked. This incorporates fine print and standard structures like locations, standard presentations, dates, contact data, and even organization letterhead. It’s simple to bypass these things in light of the fact that they’re frequently utilized †however a decent editor realizes that occasionally botches occur in the most interesting of spots. An incorrectly spelled name on organization letterhead is humiliating, and a mistaken telephone number won’t land any deals. Focus on the additional items. This implies diagrams, charts, pictures, titles, page numbers, and even numbered records. Ensure the numbered slugs are consecutive, that you haven’t gone from A. to C. in your layout, and that the entirety of the designs are straight up and appropriately named. Verification legitimate names and features or titles independently. It’s simple to commit errors in headings since proofers are generally so centered around the body of the duplicate, so return and verification these in another round. Appropriate names go in this classification too on the grounds that it tends to be anything but difficult to skirt the spelling. I’ve seen â€Å"Michelle† transformed into â€Å"Michael† or â€Å"Mitchell† too often †and trust me, it doesn’t make your crowd ponder your insight. Clear your brain. Making some hard memories centering? Altering and editing require a sharp eye and significant measures of focus, however it’s likewise a quite tedious activity. On the off chance that you can, invigorate yourself by putting a little separation among you and whatever you’re editing. Peruse something different, or give dozing a shot what you just composed before sealing. Do you have any tips that you find helpful while editing your work? Tell us!

Zeus: The man, the myth, the legend

Zeus: The man, the fantasy, the legend         Throughout the pantheon of Greek and Roman fantasy a significant number of the divine beings are delineated in just one, loved look. Zeus on the then again is delineated the same number of things which incorporate; the leader of different divine beings, a sibling, a warrior, a despot, a simply ruler, a wrathful god, a miscreant and an attacker. Zeus exemplifies what many saw to be ideal manliness in classical times. He was the objective of duplicity and retribution, for the most part from his incensed spouse Hera, however he was the objective of numerous wrathful demonstrations none the less. Anyway the one angle in Zeus standard that is generally significant in clarifying why he was such a significant figure in Mythology is that he was delineated as a dad, even in fantasies where he was depicted in another light, for example, a warrior or as a child endeavoring to usurp his dads position, his male centric side consistently appeared in some way in huge numbers of the tales.         Zeus name in Greek originates from a root word meaning brilliant. It is fascinating to take note of that the planet Jupiter, which is a similar name as Zeus in Roman is normally the most brilliant article in the night sky, is by all accounts an intriguing etymological examination. Zeus assumed responsibility for the sky when the Olympian divine beings acquired authority over the world while his siblings Hades and Poseidon were given power over the black market and the Oceans, separately. Ordinarily Zeus is related with the helping jolt, his weapon if decision, just as the hawk, a glorious image of honorability. The Oak tree is additionally attached to Zeus as it is a durable tree that develops for many years.         Zeus was the most youthful of the original Olympian divine beings which additionally included Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon. At the point when he was conceived Zeus was covered up to experience childhood with the island of Crete so as to forestall his dad, Cronus, from eating him similarly as he did to his more established kin. Rather than eating Zeus, Cronus was fooled into eating a stone which thusly caused him to disgorge the entirety of his ate up kids at exactly that point to be killed by Zeus who was securing his kin. This can be compared to a dad who might secure his youngsters. The Olympian divine beings partner together and battle the entirety of the Titans from on mount Olympus, this was known as the Titanomachy. This multi year war was helped by the Cyclopes, however the Hecatonchires too. At the point when the Olympian divine beings at long last won the Titans were then detained in Tartarus.         Zeus occupied with lustful acts with goddesses which brought forth numerous youngsters which included; Aegipan, Persephone and Zargreus, Orion and Manes, Ares, Eileithyia, Eris, Hebe, Ersa and Carae, Limos, Apollo and Artimis, Hermes, Athena, The Muses Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania, Zagreus and Melinoe, Ersa, Nemean Lion and Pandia. There moms were Aix, Anake, Demeter, Dione, Thalassa, Gaia, Hera, Eos, Eris, Leto, Maia, Metis, Mnemosyne, Persephone and Selene separately. Themis who was the principal spouse of Zeus brought forth Astraea, Nemisis, Horae, Auxo, Carpo, Thallo, Dike, Eirene, Eunomia, Pherusa, Euporie, Orthosie, and The destinies Atropos Clotho and Lachesis (Wikipedia Zeus). Notwithstanding having a lot of youngsters with goddesses Zeus likewise had kids with numerous humans, these kids incorporate; Aeacus, Hercules, Amphion and Zethus, Arcas, Britomartis, Perseus, Tityas, Dardanus and Iasion. Minos, Rhadamanrhys and Sarpedon, Aglea, Euphrosyne and Thalia, Kronios, Spartaios and Kytos, Thebe, Epaphus and Keroessa, Sarpedon, Polydeuces, Castor and Helen of Troy, Lorcrus, Argus and Pelasgus, Alexander III of Macedon (Alexander the Great), Meliteus, Tantulus, Balius and Xanthus, Hellen, Dionysus, Lacedaemon, Palici, Litae, Tyche and Ate. The human moms of these offspring of Zeus are; Aegina, Alcmene, Antipoe, Callisto, Carme, Danae, Elara, Electra, Europa, Eurynome, Himalia, Iodame, Io, Lamia, Laodamia, Leda, Maera, Niobe, Olympias, Othreis, Pluto, Podarge, Pyrrha, Semele Taygete and Thalia individually (Wikipedia Zeus). The Gigantomachy was the skirmish of the Olympian divine beings against the monsters. The Giants, who were conceived of the blood of Uranus spilling onto the Earth were half human and half serpentine animals. This fantasy portrays Zeus in the warrior light since it was Zeus who battled the pioneer of the Giants Thyphoeus. Typhoeus was beaten by Zeus and in this manner were the mammoths. They were detained in Earth which to Greeks gave reason concerning why volcanoes are dissipated along the Earths surface. The way that he battled Typhoeus alone embodies what a considerable lot of the Greeks and Romans thought were the way a warrior ought to carry on, that and in the event that he didn't do so he would lose the shame that he was the exemplification of manliness. The fantasies of Zeus are so broadly differed and his conduct inside the legends are similarly as shifted that some have proposed that Zeus is the aggregation of numerous minor divine beings who after some time were obscured into one preeminent being. What's more the numerous unusual demonstrations of Zeus can be a route for some individuals to legitimize their dark conduct.         Zeus had relations with mortal females, yet in addition mortal guys. One of the most striking stories of this is of Zeus and Ganymede. Ganymede was a slave kid who Zeus got beguiled by, one day Zeus sent hawks practical to recover Ganymede and carry him to Olympus there he turned into a cup-conveyor. That way he was consistently around when Zeus required him to be. This is a case of how Zeus here and there manhandled his capacity to get anything he desired. This story additionally reflects how Roman culture saw homosexuality and acknowledged it the manner in which they did.         In Ovids Metamorphoses the story of the incredible flood is another fine case of Zeus wearing one more cap. This fantasy Deals with leader of Arcadia Lycaon and his overbearing conduct. Lycaon figured he would serve Zeus one of his kids as a penance. As one would expect Zeus discovered this horrendous and chose to rebuff Lycaon, yet the remainder of humankind too. He initially changed Lycaon into a wolf, it fit his character. This was the normal style of most changes in Ovids works. Zeus at that point chose to clean the Earth off of humankind and start new, accordingly the extraordinary flood a lot of like the account of Noahs Ark. In the Greek adaptation, there were anyway two survivors Deucalion and his better half Pyrrha. So as to repopulate the Earth they were told to toss the bones of their mom behind them to repopulate the Earth, these guidelines from the prophet must be deciphered all together for the prophet to keep up that it was rarely off-base. They Figured that the bones were really shakes from mother Earth, this was the right translation and the Earth was populated again. With respect to Zeus this story by and by shows his parental side because of the manner in which he responded to Lycaons offense.         The legend of Zeus and his relationship with Callisto is one that shows how he can, when confronted with desperation, can respond for the advancement of others not simply himself. The story goes that after Callisto was found to have a youngster with Zeus she was transformed into a bear, after her child Arcas grew up he was in the forested areas and was stood up to by her mom in bear structure, he was going to execute her when Zeus stepped in and changed then into groups of stars, these heavenly bodies were Ursa Major and Ursa Minor.         The story of Zeus and Demeter shows Zeus as an equitable and getting ruler. The story manages Hades being offered authorization to take Persephone to the Underworld to be his significant other, the main part of the story manages Demeter moping and attempting to make sense of who grabbed her little girl. Likewise in her outrage she brings starvation and dry season upon the world. In the wake of hearing all the individuals shouting out in trust because of appetite Zeus steps in and sends Hermes to recover Persephone, however she had just had eaten food in the black market and if that happens it is said that nobody can leave. So at long last Persephone must spend a segment of consistently with Hades in the black market. This fantasy shows how Zeus is a getting individual and how he gives a valiant effort for the advancement of every single under howdy all forceful guideline.         There are numerous different fantasies related with Zeus, for example, him rebuffing Prometheus to having his liver eaten out of him consistently. Or on the other hand the Zeus and his discipline for Tantalus and his impious demonstration of giving up his some to the divine beings. Works Referenced Hesiods Theogony, interpreted by Evelyn-White. Clinical Psychology Paper Essay

The incredible evangelist D.T. Niles once stated, â€Å"Christianity is only one bum advising another homeless person where to discover bread† (Niles, 2010). At its most fundamental level, clinical brain research is the endeavor of one instructed, authorized individual utilizing their insight into human conduct to address, alleviate, or in any case moderate the difficulties and worries of another person’s lifeâ€whether they be social, full of feeling, or physiological. Carefully, clinical brain research is, â€Å"the appraisal, treatment, and comprehension of mental and conduct issues and disorders† (Plante, 2011, p. 5). Clinical brain research is a logical undertaking, using the instrument of the logical technique to educate the training, systems, and medications used to address human issues. There is an exchange that exists between treatment result research and psychotherapy in clinical psychologyâ€the science illuminates the craftsmanship and the workmanship advises the science (Plante, 2011). The purpose of this paper is to list and analyze the history and developing nature of clinical brain science just as to think about the particular instance of advising inside the structure of clinical brain science. History Hippocratesâ€the unique creator of the Hippocratic Oathâ€formed the primary complete, if naã ¯ve, physiological clarification of infection and brokenness (Plante, 2011). He suggested that awkward nature in the blend and amount of four liquids: dark bile, yellow bile, mucus, and blood, caused a few feelings and mental maladjustment, for example, bitterness, crabbiness, and outrage. It was not until the appearances of Plato that it was considered that the otherworldly domain of the spirit could affect the bodily area. In any case, it was to Galen that a comprehensive hypothesis of medication was framed that consolidated the physiological clarifications of Hippocrates with the powerful clarifications of Plato. Despite the fact that Galen’s thoughts of phlebotomy were imperfect, it was a stage toward target clarifications of ailment and malady. During the medieval times crafted by Thomas Aquinas, Paracelsus, and Weyer moved the conversation of brain research away from the otherworldly and toward physical clarifications of psychological maladjustment, for example, real causes, developments of the stars, and conduct. Moreover, at the beginning of the Renaissance and into the nineteenth century the cover of shadow and mystery behind the internal activities of the brain, body, and cell were torn from their places and the mechanisms of logical perception and research center examination were organized in the spot of religion and enchantment as the sole clarification of sickness. Crafted by Rush, Bernard, and Pinel during this time of history prepared for progressively altruistic ways to deal with the strange and deviantâ€approaches that tried to ease mental brokenness as opposed to just separate and control the useless. The introduction of brain science appropriate went ahead the impact points of the distributing of Wundt’s The Elements of Psychophysics in 1850 and James’ Principles of Psychology in 1890 (Plante, 2011). These distributions, alongside the foundation of the main mental research center by Wundt, finished in the establishing of the American Psychological Association (APA) in 1892. The principle drive behind the youngster field of brain science was to gauge exactly conduct as far as possible of understanding the auxiliary parts of the psyche itself. Henceforth, when clinical brain research originally stood up four years after the fact (1896), through the opening of the main facility by Witmer, numerous clinicians disapproved of the use of the standards of human conduct to clinical circumstances. This was viewed as a stage away from a general comprehension of human conduct and toward irregular or broken brain research. Regardless of the underlying strain between clinical brain science and standard brain research, the primary proper classes in clinical brain research started in 1904 at the University of Pennsylvania and the main version of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology was distributed in 1907. Advancing Nature In spite of the reluctance of the APA to grasp an applied way to deal with brain research, clinical brain research developed quickly in the start of the twentieth century (Plante, 2011). Returning to Plato’s dispute of the supernatural influencing the human, Sigmund Freud proposed that oblivious clash and difficulty could have an immediate result on mental and physical ailment. Crafted by Freud formed and shaped the bearing of clinical brain science for a long time after his demise. Despite the fact that it was not until the Boulder Conference of 1949 that the preparation rules for clinical brain science were mapped out and scratched in stone, in a manner of speaking. One of the primary principles of these rules was that clinical clinicians ought to have a firm comprehension of both mental research and psychotherapy. It was not until the 1950s and on that Freud’s thoughts of human brain research were traded for the options of humanism, psychological behaviorism, and family frameworks draws near (Plante, 2011). The progressions in mental point of view were accelerated by the foundation of network emotional well-being offices and the presentation of psychotropic medications as a treatment of anomalous brain research. Despite the fact that these progressions in origination and treatment offered options in contrast to the conventional thoughts of psychodynamics and behaviorism, nobody hypothesis of human brain science demonstrated to clarify the total of conduct, brokenness, and insight. Keeping that in mind, closefistedly diverse ways to deal with brain research were adoptedâ€such as the biopsychosocial theoryâ€that fused a considerable lot of the thoughts and practices from the previously mentioned points of view. Current Issues The only remaining century of clinical brain research has been portrayed by a sickness philosophy that stresses the treatment or anticipations of disarranges (Maddux, 2008). Despite the fact that this methodology has utility in the domain of psychotherapy it does not have the capacity to improve the personal satisfaction for individuals who don't experience the ill effects of some kind of dysfunctional behavior. Maddux (2008) suggests that a move toward positive psychologyâ€a point of view that anxieties human qualities and mental healthâ€should be sought after. Constructive brain research intends to, â€Å"†¦promote wellbeing, bliss, physical wellness, and delight, and individual satisfaction through the free quest for picked and esteemed goals† (Maddux, 2008, p. 68). By moving toward constructive brain science the qualities of individuals can be utilized to advance psychological wellness preemptively just as battle dysfunctional behavior. At the front line of the usage of positive brain research is the development of computer generated reality (VR) as a way to permit patients to control tricky circumstances identified with their dysfunctional behavior without the utilization of psychotherapy (Riva, 2009). By making a sheltered and agreeable virtual condition patients can investigate proactive approaches to adjust and intercede their emotional wellness issues. Research and Statistics in Clinical Counseling Psychology Instead of approach this area from a structuralist approach (for example the auxiliary pieces of clinical guiding brain science), it appears to be judicious to offer a particular case of how research and insights are utilized and impact clinical directing brain science. Bakar, Jaafar, Mohamed and Tarmizi (2009) tried to build up a connection between's guiding self-adequacy and student advisor execution. Their exploration found that to be sure there is a positive relationship (r(100)=.312p<.05) and moreover that a general propensity exists whereby self-adequacy predicts future execution. As Plante (2011) put it, â€Å"The study of clinical brain research educates the craftsmanship while the workmanship likewise illuminates the science† (p. 6). On account of Bakar’s et al. (2009) examine, by utilizing the factual information gathered in their investigation the craft of guiding can be affected and adjusted by the study of research and measurements. Explicitly Bakars et al. proposed that the preparation of directors is of vital significance to learner self-viability, since high ability in the chief empowers high capability in the student. End In total, from the main hypothesis of interchange between the supernatural and the physical to the principal propositions of a natural reason for psychological instability, the examination of the human condition has looked for a clarification for the connection among brain research and physiology. As the historical backdrop of brain science as a rule advanced there was a propensity to search out progressively experimental, logically ascertainable clarifications of human conduct. Nonetheless, as clinical brain science rose in the late nineteenth century and mid twentieth century an applied way to deal with psychological maladjustment was embraced that stressed a hands-on technique to treatment. Right now there is a move in clinical brain research toward avoidance and human qualities and away from the sickness philosophy of the previous century. This can be seen most promptly in the establishment of VR as a preemptive way to deal with psychological sickness. Research and measurements represent clinical directing brain science as a compass or restorative instrument to illuminate the training and preparing regarding clinical guiding therapists. Health Is a Vehicle, Not a Destination

Health Is a Vehicle, Not a Destination We often have a misguided, binary view of personal health. Case in point: a  reader took umbrage with a sign  in our recent essay, 11 Signs You Might Be Broke. She didnt like what we had written  about health, stating, Im normally a huge fan [of The Minimalists,] but this article really annoyed me just because [it] came across quite judgmental of sick people. The article might have been better if theyd stuck to ten points. But, dear reader, health is the most important aspect  of the whole article! Without health we have nothing. Although of course health is a continuumâ€"it is different for each of us. Personal health is, by definition,  personal. The statement in the articleâ€"Unhealthy equals depressionâ€"does not suggest that we  should compare our  personal health with everyone elses  (in fact, comparison in general is  pernicious and should be avoided when possible), and it certainly is not  a judgment of anyone whos sick. Rather, we all  want to be in the best possible health given our unique  circumstances. For example, I broke my back while playing basketball in the eighth grade, 20 years ago, and I still have a broken vertebra today, which, besides being terribly painful, significantly limits my range of motion compared to, say, a gymnast or an athlete or just your average 33-year-old guy. Hell, I can hardly tie my shoes at times. However, that doesnt mean I shouldnt strive to be as healthy as I can be given my constraints. In this sense, health is perspectival, and so if we want to be happy, then we all must strive to be the healthiest versions of ourselvesâ€"broken bones, sickness, warts and all. In fact, the Internet is filled with shining examples  of people with diseases, disabilities, and broken backs who are able to live  meaningful lives because they live as healthily as they can according to  their individual situations. Its also  worth noting that when Ryan and I talk about health, were not talking about vanity muscles or improved statistics or competing with others. Those are end resultsâ€"destinations. But  health is not a destination; it is a vehicle. So, OK, maybe Ill never make it to  the NBA with my bad back (not to mention my mediocre ball-handling skills), but that doesnt mean I should feel defeated, broke, broken.  No, it means I must take care of the vehicle I have, providing it with regular tune-ups (daily stretching, regular exercise, and occasional  chiropractor visits, as well as a good diet, adequate sleep, and daily meditation), which will help me better enjoy the journey ahead. This is because of the stretching occurring hamstrings which will then reduce the pull on the lower back, reducing back pain when carrying out everyday tasks. In one 2017 study, it was concluded that hamstring flexibility has a negative correlation with muscle strains in movements involving that muscle. (2) Another study showed that hamstring flexibility differed greatly between the genders, with females demonstrating a much greater flexibility in comparison to their male counterparts (3). Both are reasons for men to get into yoga and improve their hamstring flexibility. Navasana This pose is great for your abdominal muscles as it forces you to tense them and hold this pose. This is challenging, even for the strongest of men! As well as strengthening your abdominal muscles, this pose strengthens your thighs, your hip flexors and lower back. Balasana Also known as the ?Childs Pose, this pose is a difficult one for men to master and will take practice. But once it can be performed, this is a pose that will provide multiple benefits. Opening up the hips, this pose stretches the hip flexors, the quadriceps, the groin and the ankles, all of which are typically very inflexible in males. Another benefit of performing this pose is that it also relieves stress and fatigue. Anjaneyasana This pose is a lunging pose which stretches the hip flexors, the abdominals as well as opening the heart. Opening the heart leads to improved blood circulation and better breathing, reducing the risk of potential cardiovascular disease. A medical benefit to this pose is the fact that it stretches the thyroid gland region which activates these organs. This improves heart and digestion function as well as boosting your bodys metabolism. Another area that is improved by this pose is balance. Balance has been shown to improve when undertaking a yoga program and is an ability which will benefit you greatly later in life (4). Balance is critical when performing this move and studies show that this is an area in which men struggle more than their female counterpart (5). In the beginning, it is possible you will struggle in a few of the poses as you begin to find to your find. Bhujangasana This pose is great for stretching and strengthening your upper body msuscles. The muscles that are stretched include the ones across your upper chest and shoulders, an area that is often neglected by males when stretching. This pose stretches all these upper body muscles, including the abdominals whilst strengthening your arms and improving organ function. The organs that are found in the abdominals are stimulated by the stretching causing improved digestion and an improved function of the kidneys. Ardha Kapotasana Also known as the ?Half-Pigeon pose, this is possibly the hardest pose on the list for men to master due to their tight hip flexors and groins. But this pose possesses some fantastic benefits as it stretches and looses up your leg muscles whilst also stretching opening up the chest and improving postural position. This position being held can support the endocrine system as the muscles surrounding the glands are all being stretched providing a number of physical and mental benefits. The deep lower leg stretch that it provides is unrivalled and is definitely worth the work it takes to be able to master this tricky position. So, whilst yoga for men gets a bad rap, weve just shown you some of the reasons why it shouldnt. Yoga has been around for thousands of years and it is clear to see why. And it is most definitely not just for girls. I think its time to start dont you? Get started and begin to reap the benefits of this wonderful form of exercise.

Kevin Klines Movie A Midsummer Nights Dream Essay

Kevin Klines Movie A Midsummer Nights Dream Theatre students are often told what not to prepare for an audition because some pieces have been done so many times they lose their meaning. Of Shakespeare’s entire canon, the two most often forbidden texts are Puck and Helena monologues from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Therefore, the two roles are often the most sought-after and coveted in the play when in production. However, in the 1999 film version, Kevin Kline as Bottom gets top billing. According to the rules of Elizabethan hierarchy, Bottom, being of the merchant class, is literally at the â€Å"bottom† of the social spectrum. The Athenians and fairies rank higher on the great chain of being. Kline’s billing is not merely a result†¦show more content†¦The production team also emphasizes Bottom’s singularity though several visual cues. When we first meet Bottom, he is wearing a white suit, unlike that of any of his fellow mechanicals and the color choice stands out against the brown-toned townscape. Furthermore, screen-time-wise, he gets a longer introduction than the other mechanicals, which audiences may or may not recognize from the townscape when they begin their dialogue later. At the end of the film, there is a short scene in-between lines of Puck’s epilogue that reveals Bottom staring into the night, thinking of his Titania tryst, when he sees the fairies. The fact that the scene occurs at the very end of the film, when Bottom has disappeared from the story according to the text, shows the film’s emphasis on his character as the center stone of the plot. Since the audience leaves the story with Bottom, the filmmakers lead us to believe that we were following his point of view all along. Kevin Kline’s performance equally adds to his singularity among the cast. In a movie full of actors who have each starred in their own films, television shows, or stage productions, he leads the pack. Partially, his standing-out can be attributed to that elusive quality sometimes denoted as, â€Å"charisma† or â€Å"charm.† Kline has a way of making audiences trust him that acting

Erikson s Life Span Theory - 1879 Words

Going along with this, Erikson’s Life Span Theory presents a lot of ideas that I agree with when it comes to raising children. Erikson believes that there are eight stages where an individual will face a crisis. The crisis infants will face is trust or mistrust of their caregiver. I believe this goes back to nurture, because if you show your child that you are there for them they should develop trust in you rather than mistrust. The crisis they face during toddlerhood is autonomy or shame and doubt. This stage is where they begin to develop a sense of self and want to start doing things more on their own. When beginning to raise my infant, I hope they display personality similarities to fearless, energetic children. According to our books, a â€Å"good† parent for preschooler needs to display affection, nurturance, guidance and discipli ne, and interaction with the child. I want to be involved in my child’s life, and during their preschool years is of extreme importance to remember they are watching your every mood, so remaining a positive influence is detrimental. During pre-teens years, I believe that parenting becomes even more difficult. For instance, during this period your child is most likely going through changes and trying to figure out who they are. With this in mind, I feel like it is important to keep an open communication line open with your child especially during this age so they feel comfortable enough to come and discuss worries and problems they may be facing. Media use starts becoming extremely important during this time, so I would feel the need to set up certain regulations and make sure they are enforced. I would not allow my child to have a smart-phone during this time period either. I had to wait until I was thirteen, and I think this is the perfect age. Jewel Pieces Of A Shattered Dream Essay Example For Students

Jewel: Pieces Of A Shattered Dream Essay My opinion of the book mentioned above is that it is extremely well written and inhibits several unique characteristics. The typical biography or autobiography is written in a sober manner, such that the reader is completely bored by the events of the life of the subject. The author Kristen Kemp, wrote this book so that the audience is excited and anxious to discover what happens in the next chapter in the life of the specified individual. An example of the authors exciting style of writing is evident in this quote referring to Jewels acceptance to Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan; Just like that, Jewel set out for, possible, her most life changing journey of all. That statement could have been written so that it simply stated that Jewel was going to attend that academy, however, due to Kristen Kemps writing style, the statement kept me excited to read another chapter. I think that Jewels life was full of outstanding events that were interesting to read about. Im glad that I chos e this book as compared to other biographies based upon a less eventful life. There were extreme high points in her life, It was like overnight that Jewel discovered happiness while riding around in a VW van. These times incorporated happiness into the reading, while the low ones Despite her efforts to make herself feel better, she couldnt escape some of her problems established sympathy. A variety of mixed emotions are the key ingredient in making a making a reader become involved in the story line.Jewel Kilcher was born on May 23, 1974, and grew up in Homer, Alaska. She lived with her parents and two brothers in a house on an extremely large plot of land. Their house had no TV or running water. Having no running water meant no shower and no indoor plumbing, just an outhouse in the yard. Growing up, Jewel helped take care of the horses that her family raised. She also hayed and worked in the familys garden with her father. Both, her father and mother, were extremely musically incli ned and performed all over Alaska. When Jewel was six, she was singing and traveling with them. She acquired an amazing ability to yodel at this age, and soon this became a regular accompaniment with her parents. A few years later, Jewels parents divorced. She still traveled with her father every once in a while for seven more years. They sang in bars and restaurants, or wherever they could get a gig. Jewel still kept ties open with her mother also. Her mother taught her to write poetry. Jewel found this to be an effective way of releasing her anger towards her parents divorce. Jewel then, after earning some money, headed to Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan for her junior and senior years of high school. She won a singing scholarship to go there, but it didnt pay for all of the tuition. Most of the other money was raised at a solo concert she put on, and by donations from people that lived in Homer, Alaska. After finishing school, Jewel moved to San Diego where her mother now lived. She didnt want to go to college, and she wasnt happy just surfing or traveling around, so she took several jobs to make a little extra money. She didnt like them though, so she decided to live in her van and strive for her goal of a singing career. Pretty soon, she landed a regular Thursday-night gig at the Innerchange Coffeehouse in Pacific Beach. It was there that she became well known and liked. Word of her singing ability spread to other big cities, and in March, Jewel signed a deal with Atlantic Records. During the last half of 1994, she did small tours to a few other c ities, in hopes of spreading her popularity. In February of 1995, her first CD was composed. It was thought to be a very popular style of music, however it did not bring in a lot of profit, Despite this appearing to be a failure, Atlantic Records kept trying. The first CD, Who Will Save Your Soul, was released again and in late 1996, it was then that Jewel begin receiving an increasingly higher profit. She even appeared on some of the nations most known talk shows such as, Late Night with Conan OBrien and Tonight show with Jay Leno. Jewels CD, Who Will Save Your Soul was an extremely large building block for her career in music. Her popularity began to grow and 1997, she received two Grammy Award nominations. They were for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal. This was the point in which she finally acknowledged that she had made it. She had achieved her dream of a singing career, but like most things in life, the fame and merriment that she had found would soon prove to vanish as quickly as it arrived. .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f , .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .postImageUrl , .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f , .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f:hover , .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f:visited , .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f:active { border:0!important; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f:active , .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .udca14ceacc4b83fa350d47ecb2f3f78f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Artificial Intelligence EssayBiographies

Submission to Local Network

In their operations, businesses should enact and support the core values proposed by the UN Global Compact. In line with this, we are writing to propose the various strategies which firms should incorporate in their operation in relation to anticorruption and environmental responsibility. According to Global Compact, firms should comply with the Eighth Principle which stipulates that business organizations should implement various initiatives which are geared towards promoting environmental responsibility.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Submission to Local Network specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More According to the Rio Declaration, businesses are charged with the responsibility of ensuring that their operations do not affect the environment in which they operate negatively. This arises from the fact that the legitimacy of a firms operation is dependent on its capacity to meet the society’s needs (The Global Compact 2008, 3). In our operation, Hewlett Packard has incorporated the concept of environmental responsibility within its product marketing. This has enabled the firm to comply with the Global Compact requirements. Therefore, we agree to this recommendation due to realization of the fact that environmental responsibility is a key element in the long-term survival of a business entity (Fernando 2009, 44). In addition to environmental responsibility, business enterprises should also ensure that there is a high degree of transparency in their operation (Mason 2005, 45). This is in line with Global Compact principle 10 which stipulates that the private sector has a significant role to play in ensuring that corruption is eliminated. Principle 10 stipulates that business enterprises should be concerned at ensuring that all forms of corruption such as extortion and bribery are eliminated. In order to ensure increased compliance to the above principles, we recommend the following based o n our experiences. Firms should undertake a comprehensive research in developing products In our operation, HP has had a significant impact on the environment via its products. The core objective is to improve the livelihood of its customers and the society in general. This is attained via integration of environmental consideration within the firm’s business strategy. The resultant effect is that the firm’s products are of high value. Member of the Local Network should incorporate the Design-for-Environment (DfE) strategy in their operation. This will ensure that all the environmental characteristics are optimized in the production process. For the DfE to be effective, firm’s management teams should ensure that there is a continuous evaluation of the programme to ensure compliance. Evaluation can be attained by formulating sustainability principles which should be evaluated against global standards.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? The EIA tools will ensure that decision makers put into consideration the resultant environmental impact in relation to a particular business project. According to the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), business enterprises should formulate approaches which are aimed at ensuring that a comprehensive impact assessment is attained (Petts1999, 23). This will benefit the society in that firms will be able to identify and assess the necessary changes which should be undertaken designing the product so as to reduce the product’s environmental impact. Considering the fact that environmental assessment is aimed at ensuring that the firm undertakes its corporate social responsibility effectively, business enterprises will be required to undertake considerable inves tment in understanding the needs of the society (Tolhurst, Pohl, Matten Visser 2008, 244). The society may be reluctant in giving their opinion regarding the operation of the firm. This means that the EIA tools may not be effective. Integrating a code of conduct with partners In our operation, Hewlett Packard works in collaboration with various stakeholders in an effort to attain its goals. One of the issues which the firm’s management team puts more emphasis on entails ensuring that integrity is not compromised in all its business dealings. This is achieved via incorporation of a code of conduct with its business partners. To eliminate the various forms of corruption such as bribery and exhortation, business enterprises should ensure that their business associates and other stakeholders such as suppliers adhere to business ethics (HP Ethics and Compliance Office 2006, 1). In addition, businesses should ensure that their counterparts are familiar with the various laws and co nsequences associated with the firm. This will mitigate chances of financial loss occurring due to involvement with corruption (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development 1999, 29). To prevent any form of corruption, we require our business partners to formulate and implement effective controls. These are aimed at preventing and detecting various acts involving corruption. In line with this, we suggest that Local Network members should formulate and implement effective controls. Through implementation of these controls, both the business partners such as suppliers and customers will benefit. For example, the firms will be able to operate effectively and efficiently leading into increased customer satisfaction.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Submission to Local Network specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, there are challenges which the firms will face. One of these challenges relate with the fact that business partners will find it difficult complying with the laid down controls due to existence of legal and cultural differences (Vig Axelrod 1999, 35). The above points reflect some of the guidelines which members of Global Compact should integrate. Consideration of these issues will contribute towards increased compliance with the Global Compact requirements. We hope that this submission will be carefully considered and look forward to a draft paper that details the approach to be taken by the Local Network. Reference List Fernado, Andrian. 2009. Adn Rn vs Bsn Rn Essay Example

Adn Rn vs Bsn Rn Essay Example Adn Rn vs Bsn Rn Essay Adn Rn vs Bsn Rn Essay Running head: Associate Degree Nurse versus Baccalaureate Degree Nurse Associate Degree Nurse versus Baccalaureate Degree Nurse Valerie Castillo Grand Canyon University NRS 430-V September 19, 2010 Associate Degree Nurse versus Baccalaureate Degree Nurse A registered nurse (RN) is defined as a highly trained and skilled professional who cares for those that are sick (Quan, 2006). They are educated and trained to care for those that have chronic and acute illness, they are also taught to help those with wellness issues. They use these learned skills along with their compassion to provide care to those in need. There are two very common types of nursing degrees earned: associates degree nurse (ADN) and baccalaureate degree nurse (BSN). Both degrees enable a nurse to work as nurse as long as they have passed the NCLEX-RN, licensing exam, so what is the difference between an ADN and BSN degree, is one RN more competent than the other? The biggest, most obvious difference is the length of education required in each degree. An ADN nurse often goes through 2-3 years of education before receiving a degree and becoming eligible to take the NCLEX-RN. An ADN program focuses more on technical skills rather than theory (Entry-Level Nursing Degree Programs, n. d. ). Whereas, a BSN nurse goes through 3-4 years of education before receiving a degree and becoming eligible to take the NCLEX-RN. A BSN program is the entry point for professional nursing and is often a requirement for many nursing positions (Entry-Level Nursing Degree Programs, n. d. ). Although all nurses must take the NCLEX-RN licensing exam to become a RN that is allowed to practice, this exam is only one indicator of competency and doesn’t test the skills learned in a BSN program. In 2001, the National Council of State Boards for Nursing conducted an Employer’s study, in this study they found employers had a strong preference for hiring experienced BSN nurses for management and RN specialty positions (Rosseter, 2010). Another survey published in Journal of Nursing Administration showed 72% of manager’s noticed differences in practice between BSN prepared nurses and ADN prepared nurses, particularly in regards to strong leadership skills and critical thinking skills (Rosseter, 2010). With regards to more critical thinking skills, studies have also been conducted with correlation to more BSN staff and lower rates of mortality. In the January 2007 issue of Journal of Advance Nursing, they found that â€Å"a 10% increase in the proportion of baccalaureate prepared nurses was associated with 9 fewer deaths for every 1,000 discharged patients† (Rosseter, 2010). In today’s society, practicing as an RN requires more than the ability to take doctor’s orders, follow them through and show competency in technical skills. It requires the nurse to take in consideration the patient as a whole and be able to make critical decisions; it also means that the nurse should be able to question a doctor’s order when they seem inappropriate. An RN with a BSN has often had more liberal arts classes which enables them to have sharper critical thinking skills along with having been exposed to more cultures and different people (Forster, n. d). An example, a 70-year old female patient was admitted on Tuesday for a skull fracture as a result of syncope. Initial cat scans showed a small subdural bleed in the left side of temporal and parietal lobes. The patient has since then been in the ICU, now out of the ICU on a neurological floor. The patient’s assessment has been stable with no changes noted in the neurological assessment; however the patient continues to complain of a headache, increased lightheadedness and dizziness with ambulation along with nausea. The days come and go, with the intent of discharging the patient but exactly a week later, still hospitalized the patient complains of the worst headache of her life and extreme nausea despite being given every anti-nausea medication possible. The doctors are made aware, a stat Cat Scan is performed, no change is noted to the bleed. The pain and nausea however are only worsening causing the patient to actually make herself through up. What next, disregard the patient’s pain and nausea as a result of the injury, so just continue to treat it or be the patient’s advocate and call the doctor insisting that something is still wrong? An ADN nurse, as she was educationally prepared to medicate patients as needed and based on their complaints, may disregard the headache and nausea and attribute it to a complication of this type of head injury. With that said the ADN RN is most likely to keep trying to give the patient more pain and nausea medication, in hopes that with time this phase of the injury may pass. A BSN nurse would more likely do a little more critical thinking and give it a holistic approach such as looking at all patient care aspects. This RN would probably redo a complete head to toe assessment and thorough neurological assessment. She may also look into the patient’s labs, further investigate the headache and nausea such as precipitating and aggravating factors, when it occurs, what makes it better or worse if anything and then call the doctor if indicated. All in all, both types of degrees enable a nurse to practice their job with competence however a BSN degree definitely opens up more opportunities and gives nurses the ability to give their patients the very best care possible. A BSN degree also prepares an RN to develop the critical thinking skills and communication skills that set a BSN nurse apart from an ADN nurse. References Entry-Level Nursing Degree Programs. Micro Economics in the Real World Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Micro Economics in the Real World - Term Paper Example The unrestricted mobility of resources and factors of production has made the unbalanced economic performance worse as the developed countries control and regulate economic activities of the lower tier economies at their benefits (Kunz, 56). As reported by the World Bank, the economic performance of India and Germany significantly vary. This can be measured by focusing on GDP, inflation, rate of employment and poverty index. HOW THE GPD OF INDIA COMPARE TO THAT OF GERMANY Being the largest economy in Europe, Germany benefits from a pool of technically gifted labour force, hence her dominance in chemical and machinery industry. GDP which is the key determinant of growth and development is defined as the â€Å"the total market value of all goods and services produced in a country during a given year† The GDP of Germany has been positive over a couple of decades. However, following the 2008-2010 global financial contagion, the steady gross domestic production of Germany significa ntly declined. In the first quarter of 2012, the GDP of Germany increased by 0.5%, while in the second quarter, it increased by 0.3%. Over the same period, government and household expenditure and exports increased. On the contrary, fixed investments reported a decline in real value. Private investment and consumption fell following the Euro financial crisis. Amid the global financial and economic crisis, in 2009 Germany posted purchasing power parity (PPP) of $2.182 trillion (Oecd Economic Surveys: Germany, 23). Even during the recession, Germany’s economy recorded positive returns with its GDP ranking sixth globally. 2009 reported the worst economic performance for Germany after posting a GDP of -5%. The economic growth rate and development (2007-2009) are as graphically represented above. Over the same period (2007-2011), India’s economy posted a positive return with a 5.5% GDP in 2011 and 4.1% in 2007. A report by the KPMG’s executive in India stated,  "Whether it (GDP growth) is 5-5.5 per cent or 7-8 per cent, the most important part is that the country is still growing. If you look at the rest of the world...India is still growing at 5-5.5 per cent, it’s a slower growth but it’s a growth† (Kajal, and Moore, 67) In the first quarter of 2012, the performance of the Indian economy slipped because of decline in mining, quarrying, and manufacturing sectors. This performance was much better than that of the world’s largest economy, United States which posted an economic growth of approximately 1.5% in the gross domestic production (Oecd Economic Surveys: Germany, 87). Measured in purchasing power parity (PPP), the GDP of India was US $2.996 trillion during the 2008 financial period. In official exchange rates, this represented $1.099 trillion. The real economic growth rate for 2008-2009 was approximated to be 9%. INFLATION RATE IN GERMANY AND INDIA Inflation is the persistent rise in the general price level of goods and services in economy measured as a proportion of the base period records. Inflation is measured using the consumer price index (CPI), which is the critical indicator of inflation. It therefore represents the changes in retail prices of commodities for a specific consumer basket. It is the measure of the purchasing power of the local
